Glaucoma is a degenerative disease that if left untreated can result in permanent vision loss. Open Angle Glaucoma is a result of increased fluid production or a decrease in fluid drainage. This causes an increase in pressure in the eye, which can damage the optic nerve.

Treatment of Open Angle Glaucoma can consist of medicatons, laser therapy or surgery.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is often done instead of increasing the number of eye drops or eye medications. SLT uses an advanced laser system to target specific cells in the eye, this will stimulate the body's natural mechanism to increase outflow of fluid in the eye. Benefits include:

  • Targets only specific cells, leaving surrounding tissue intact.
  • Not associated with systemic side effects
  • Stimulates the body's natural mechanism to enhance outflow of fluid from the eye.
  • reimbursed by Medicare and many other insurance providers.

Dr John Sveen has been performing SLT laser treatments in our Dewitt office for over one year,
